Wattles and Check Dams are designed to reduce stormwater velocity and control sediment to protect our land from the forces of erosion and our waterways from pollution. Silt Saver has designed a variety of heavy weight and light weight wattles to meet the needs of your site. Our wattles are consistently designed with the environment in mind using core products of kiln dried wood chips or pine straw. The Silt Saver ditch checks provide effective and efficient alternatives to traditional rock and fabric check dams.

  • The CHIP 10 is a weighted wattle designed for stormwater velocity dissipation and sediment retention in BMP applications such as slope stabilization and curb inlet protection. It is filled with biodegradable weed and seed free kiln dried wood chips providing an environmentally friendly alternative to recycled rubber / wire / silt fence. The kiln dried wood chips also allow this wattle to weigh less for shipping and installation (approximately 5 lbs./ft.) while more than doubling in weight (approximately 14.5lbs./ft.) when storm water is absorbed by the chips. The device is nominal 9 inch in diameter and 10 feet in length. Total dry weight is nominal 58lbs, while wet weight is nominal 145 lbs. The wattle has attached handles to accommodate easy placement and movement and the casing is provided as two durable sleeve options: Black woven polypropylene geotextile fabric or high visibility polypropylene green mesh fabric. The CHIP 10 provides an environmentally safe alternative to other heavy weight wattles on the market for sediment control. A waterproof protective shroud is provided over pallet purchases. Sourced and made in America.
  • The Compression Tube is a weighted wattle of nominal 5 foot length and 9 inch diameter allowing for enhanced handling and versatility in its use for stormwater velocity dissipation and sediment retention. It is filled with biodegradable weed and seed free kiln dried wood chips providing an environmentally friendly alternative to recycled rubber / wire / silt fence. The kiln dried wood chips allow this wattle to weigh less for shipping and installation (approximately 5 lbs./ft.) while more than doubling in weight (approximately 14.5lbs./ft.) when storm water is absorbed by the chips. The wattle has a durable woven polypropylene geotextile fabric with attached handles to accommodate easy placement and movement.  It comes with 2 compression stakes to apply added downward pressure to prevent undermining.  A waterproof protective shroud is provided over pallet purchases. Sourced and made in America.
  • Travel Lane Wattles are light weight, durable wattles designed for high flow stormwater filtration and easy movement. They are often used for stream protection, slope erosion control, and curb inlet protection. The durable polyester high visibility green mesh casing allows for high flow filtration and handles allow for easy installation and movement. The core filling is biodegradable pine straw preventing mold and compaction which can lead to ponding affects often associated with wheat straw wattles. Light weight, durable, reusable wattles that provide high flow filtration, flexibility, easy installation and maintenance. 9” in diameter and available in lengths 10’ / 15’ / 22’. Sourced and made in America.
  • Patent # US 12,060,690The High Velocity Ditch Check is a replacement for rock or fabric check dams / ditch checks. It is designed as a temporary barrier to slow the velocity of concentrated stormwater and facilitate controlled release through the fabric onto the rear scour guard. It is easily installed and removed without heavy machinery, is durable, and requires minimal maintenance. It is a multi-component system with each piece contributing to the performance of the system. The system is designed to conform to the contour and width of ditch slopes preventing bypass and providing strength to withstand concentrated flow. This product is offered in two prefabricated sizes: HVDC-24 is 24 foot wide with a 24” overflow to accommodate flat bottom, trapezoidal ditches and the HVDC-14 is a 14 foot wide version with 16” overflow for “V shaped” ditches. The velocity restrictor sheet is made from green mesh that allows floatables to contribute to the filtration of stormwater and makes cleaning fast and simple. Pine chip filled compression tubes held in place with compression stakes prevent undermining. The attached front water seal and rear scour guard also prevent undermining and ditch scouring. It is preassembled and sold as a kit to ensure quality control and consistency of installation. The kit includes:
    • Velocity restrictor sheet prefabricated with posts
    • Attached front water seal and rear scour guard
    • Additional rear scour guard extension
    • Compression tubes with compression stakes
    Sourced and made in America.
  • The Low Velocity Ditch Check is designed to replace light weight fabric ditch checks and traditional wattles as a temporary barrier to slow the velocity of channel stormwater. It is a multicomponent system consisting of a durable woven geotextile sleeve filled with kiln dried pine chips with an underlying attached front water seal and rear scour guard to prevent undermining that can traditionally occur in this situation. Compression stakes and sod staples maintain the placement of this device. It is preassembled and sold as a kit to ensure quality control and consistency of installation.
